QAHWA AS A SOCIAL BEVERAGE FROM WINE TO TEA

In this talk, I explore the transformation of the term qahwa, which initially referred to wine, into a broader concept that came to encompass social beverages, particularly coffee in the sixteenth century and tea in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. By analyzing poetry, I trace the evolution of the word from its early association with wine—as attested in pre-Islamic (Jāhilī) poetry—to its later connections with coffee and tea.

MAYOR follows Musa Hadid, the Christian mayor of Ramallah, during his second term in office. His immediate goals: repave the sidewalks, attract more tourism, and plan the city’s Christmas celebrations. His ultimate mission: to end the occupation of Palestine. 

Rich with detailed observation and humor, MAYOR offers a portrait of dignity amidst the madness and absurdity of endless occupation while posing a question: how do you run a city when you don’t have a country?

Arabic School Graduation

Our graduation this year will take place on Sunday, June 2, from 1pm to 4pm and it consists of both in person performances, as well as virtual performances of students from both the in-person and the on-line programs, who will present their work in an edited film.  Parents will receive detailed information on the program of events and location. CAC Online Arabic Readers’ and Conversation Workshop- Summer 2024

STUDY ARABIC LANGUAGE AND CULTURE ONLINE WITH US THIS SUMMER!

CAC invites you to register at the “Young and Adult Summer Online Arabic Workshop”. CAC offers a 12 week intensive online Arabic program during the summer term designed by the curriculum team and delivered by our certified online Arabic teachers. The program is split into two 6 week sessions and is equivalent to one full academic semester. It is open for students grade 2-12 and adults that can enroll in either or both sessions. College students and learners from all backgrounds and geographical locations are welcome!

Intensive 12 week workshop to develop students’ reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills.

The Workshop is for grade 2-5, grade 6-8, grade 9-12, and adults.

Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays for 12 weeks between April 22 and July 24, 2024.
